The 2020 vintage feels like a lifetime ago now. Harvested during New Zealand’s Covid lockdown, Golden Slumber is a deeply personal expression of Central Hawke’s Bay Sauvignon Blanc, picked by family and friends who camped amongst the vines and helped haul fruit back to the home winery.
Grown on limestone slopes and made with a hands-off philosophy, 50% of the fruit spent time on skins while the remainder was fermented as full solids in barrel using wild yeast. The wine was handled oxidatively and matured for 24 months on primary lees in neutral French oak before extended bottle ageing prior to release.
Textural, savoury and quietly complex, this is Sauvignon Blanc far removed from the expected. Unfined, unfiltered, and produced from just two barrels.
