About
Husband and wife team Morton and Elise Anderson, along with their two young girls, own and operate the Tiwaiwaka Wines Vineyard and Winery.
After spending five years in the South Australian wine industry, they decided to settle down and move back to New Zealand with the dream of trying it out for themselves. They purchased a five acre vineyard and winery in 2002, and had their first vintage in 2003 – no mucking around! They now lease the Cabbage Tree Vineyard and small site across the road as you enter Martinborough.
Mort and Elise do everything themselves, and have hand-tended their grapes since the year they took over the vineyard. They are hands-on throughout the entire process from grape growing, harvest, and winemaking, to bottling, labelling and selling.
Not only does Tiwaiwaka Wines produce stunning small batch wines with integrity, but they also have a gorgeous Cellar Door with an al fresco style garden where you can relax and enjoy a tasting of their fantastic range followed by a glass of your favourite! Now, it’s important that you try one of their platters because almost everything is handmade by Elise. From the crackers to the chardonnay drizzle, all the way down to the pickled walnuts from their own tree. Everything else, like the cheese and meats, are all locally sourced artisan delights – you can not pass up on these platters.
